When working on a film, i am usually the writer or a chose a script which can be made on a small budget. Especially being a student. I feel in order to make a project a successful when there is a deadline to work to you have to be realistic. So in order to achieve this a script has to be written with a setting, with props and with costumes that can be possible to create on a small budget.

For bigger projects there are many people willing to support an aspiring artist of many kinds. Online is particularly useful. https://www.gofundme.com/ is the most popular and preferred site to use. When promoting yourself on this site i found it useful to know that it is better to not mention you are a student. Why? Perhaps people don’t like students. The best way to describe oneself is as an Independent Film-maker  and to not give too much away, links to previous projects are great as the person willing to give money can see what kind of thing they are helping with.

Another way of course is friends and family, small donations add up and they are always excited to see the finished piece. It is always important to thank the people who give. Whether it’s a shout out or a mention in the final credits, it goes a long way.

Years 1 & 2

When i first arrived to the college to start my film degree i had just finished an A Level in Media. During that course i new i wanted to go into film and television with the small projects we had done which involved making a short film, mostly based on promotion.

I didn’t really have a specific role i wanted to start off with to begin with. So i used my lectures from the first year to learn about the different jobs each role has in making a production. I also made sure i watched recommended films which had great examples of plot, cinematography and directing.

While ‘The Shining’ has always been on of my favourite films, i was able to watch it with new eyes. This was when i became more interested in Directing, ranking up many more Directors into my list of inspirations.

For my second year’s final film, i finally had the chance to direct a short film i had written myself, especially the first time finding and working with aspiring actors. While enjoying this experience i found that perhaps the role didn’t suit me as well as i imagined.

Year 3

Before going into my second year i took a year out which was greatly needed. During this time off i kept myself busy doing the odd wedding which gave me a bigger insight into working with clients.

I feel in this 3rd year i have become more confident in creating, asking for help and doing what needs to be done while in Production. Producing has recently become my chosen role in film. I enjoy bringing together the right talented crew, casting and altogether scheduling a production from start to finish, while working on my time management, group leadership and team work.

With this year in particular i had the freedom to explore and create the films i was interested in, whereas the first and second year i felt is was more experimental where we had to keep to certain theme. This way i could see what i was capable of and what i needed to work on.

After finishing the course i have looked into various Masters programmes which i feel could help me take producing further and giving me more experience in the role while working on more independent films, this will also help me build up my show reel further in able to show and impress more future employers.
