Even from watching this film more times than i can remember, i remembered that particular shot of Jack (main character) holding up a snowflake in front of his eye, however when i re-watched the scene, that shot didn’t exist. Instead it shows Jack holding the snowflake in front of his face, but the camera being at his side.
For this project i have chosen the television show Hannibal (2013).
As much as i like the original opening credits i think that they could have done a lot more with it, mostly because of how symbolic the show is throughout the series.
For my idea i decided to have a dining table as my center piece and fill the table with things that symbolize not only the plot lines but the characters, for example a bloody letter opener and raw meat on plates to symbolize cannibalism.
I plan on having the opening as one smooth shot from one end of the table to the other. As we go down the table the worse the props will get, this will symbolize the main character, Will Graham, and as we follow him through the series the more unstable he gets.
As we reach the end of the table the camera will pan up to a red wall where there will be a pair of deer/stag antlers and soon after the title ‘Hannibal’ will appear in the middle, this is a crucial part to the show. This piece of film will be shot on green screen. I plan on having this opening from 30-40 seconds.
By the end of the academic year i hope to have experimented with many of the elements in film and hopefully have a better idea of what area of film i want to go into once i head into the industry.
I am not very confident when it comes to lighting but i would like to work and develop on my skills that i have already progressed.
For this project i plan on doing a trailer for one of my novels i have recently written. For this i will be story boarding, writing, directing, editing and producing the short film in hope i will have a taste of all the roles and being the head of my own production. If the trailer idea turns into something that is too difficult to do by myself, i may pick a scene from my story and write it into an onscreen script and film it that way.
The story i am planning on using will consist of two actors and more or less 4 locations if written correctly. The trailer will be no more than 3 minutes, however the scene would be 6 to 10 minutes.
I have researched many of the roles i will have to take lead on and thought i would rise to the challenges that will come and how i will deal and learn from making my short film.
During the production of the musical my group are working on i will be working in the costume department. I have 3 years of experience in Costume Design where i worked on on-stage plays and on-camera short films. Costumes for the characters are very important as their clothes are the first impression the audience get of the characters personality and style. To prepare for this role i will have to read the character profiles and script, getting an idea of what each characters style should be. However the final decisions will be made when the cast have been picked because depending on the size and shape of the actors, the costumes can change drastically. I will keep my own character profiles which will include notes and ideas of each costume and mood boards which will have material examples and colour wheels. A budget will be required for this part of the production. Making the costumes from scratch is not required as the musical is set in modern day so the clothes can be bought.
I find costume for me personally isn’t much of a challenge because of the experience i have working in that department. So, i decided to also take up the role of Assistant Director where i will gain experience in the area i am most interested in when it comes to film. I will be working close Director, helping and putting forward any ideas i think may help or inspire him. My responsibilities will include tracking daily progress against the filming production schedule, arranging logistics, preparing daily call sheets, checking cast and crew and overall maintaining order on the set. I will also be in charge of any health and safety paperwork.
The third role i will be taking on is Casting Director, where i will organise and facilitate the casting of actors for all the roles in the musical. This involves working closely with the Director and Producer to understand their requirements and suggesting ideal artists for each role, as well as arranging and conducting interviews and auditions. I feel this role will help me build on my organisation and communication skills.
